Lolis – Not just for Pedos Anymore

Lolis. They're everywhere. In action anime. In harem anime. Even in horror anime. Why are they important? Because the loli can make or break the show. In my Otaku experience, there are 3 types of loli: Shana-Type, Mikuru-Type, and Rena -Type. Why do you need to know this? Because, as they say, Knowledge is Power! That, and you really need to stay away from those Rena-Types…

Shana-Type:

The Shana-type is the most common type of loli. Basic features: big eyes, flat chest, ridiculously cute. Members: Shana, any girl from Ichigo Marishimo, Shinobu, any other underage girl that is ridiculously cute.

Shana is, obviously, not the first loli to fit this category, but she is the most popular at the moment, so it is named after her. The Shana-type is the favored type for lolicons (note that I am NOT a lolicon) and is therefore the only type that is officially classified as loli. Unfortunately, most people miss out on the other types, which are rarer, but much more…fun.

Mikuru-Type:

The Mikuru-type is the second most common loli. Features: Big eyes, big breasts, ridiculously cute, underage yet older than 15. Members: Mikuru, grown-up Hinata, grown-up Shinobu, Orihime Inoue, Tomao, all girls from class 2-C, especially Eri.

Aw common! Is it D? Tell meeeee! I'll just get Imadori from class 2-C…

The prime difference between the Mikuru-type and the Shana-type is that you don't actually feel guilty for saying that they're cute. The other reason is instead of the "Awww, she likes Yuji" reaction, you get "C'mon Kyon, hit it! I sure as hell would!". The last difference is that the Mikuru-type is legal in Japan (sadly, not here) while the Shana-type isn't in most of the world. The Mikuru-type is usually not associated with the word "loli", but being underage, they still fit the basic requirements. Because of this, most lolicon don't consider them loli. If, however, you ever express liking a Mikuru-type to a lolicon, they will imediatly label you as one of their own and attempt to direct you to not4chan and the like. Unfortunately, this can ruin a reputation on a message board or IRC channel. Your best defense against this is to explicitly state that you are NOT a lolicon before making your statement about a Mikuru-type.

Rena-Type:

The Rena-type is the rarest of all loli. Features: young, big eyes, ridiculously cute, ridiculously creepy, crazy as shit. Members: ANY underage female from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Kaede, young Lucy, Mariko.

The Rena type (named after the above character, only because she's creeper than Kaede) scares the shit out of most people, including grown men. Goes from being ridiculously cute and moè to Ringu-style scary in a matter of seconds. Sometimes laughs uncontrollably. Can posses psychic powers. Usually seen murdering people, especially ones who get close to their crush (See: Kaede, Lucy). The Rena-type is generally a derivative of the Shana-type, but Mikuru-types can also be Rena-types.

You're probably asking yourself where this post came from. The answer: Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. This show SCARES THE HELL OUT OF ME. AND I LOVE IT. Killer lolis=wet pants. I've never whimpered and laughed so much at the same damn thing. Go watch it. NOW. FYI, I dropped TOKKO for this, only because it's longer, has Rena-type lolis, and is just as gory.
